First School Project: Ban Xang

A school in the village of Ban Xang in the Nambak District of Luang Prabang Province was the first school project constructed through efforts of the People to People Project, Inc. It began in June 2008, using more than 20 local volunteers who learned concrete and carpentry construction skills. The school was completed October 16, 2008, at a cost of $35,000 U.S. dollars.

Photo Two:

Classes can continue through inclement weather due to the construction and design techniques, which allow for through ventilation and sunlight.

Students are provided with a clean and dry classroom environment conducive to learning.

Photo Four:

The School is built with separate toilet facilities for boys and girls. Separate facilities allow girls to continue attending school after puberty.

Photo Five:

The inscription on the plaque reads as follows, in Lao and English: To all children, may these classrooms provide an opportunity for increased knowledge, health, and prosperity. And peace for all who study at this school. This is presented to the community of Xang in September 2008.
