First Water Project: Ban Houylad
Photo One:
Ban Houylad is a large village on the Ou River. It was the first water project sponsored by the People to People Project, in cooperation with local leadership and labor and donors in the United States, to help rural growth and empowerment. Initial planning began in November 2007.
Photo Two:
The purpose of the project was to bring clean drinking water from springs in the montains to the village below. Here workers view a very good water source.
Photo Three:
Here, seventeen volunteer workers use local materials to construct a reservoir at the mountain spring to contain water for piping down to another reservoir in the village.
Photo Four:
Clean water flows downhill to the holding tank built to collect it for distribution throughout the village.
Photo Five:
Water flows from the reservoir to water stations at various locations for 117 families in the village.
Photo Six:
These children are among the 633 residents of Ban Houylad who now enjoy clean water!
